I've read all the books, done all the courses, tried all the strategies. Most of it is written by people who clearly don't live with an ADHD kid. I want to hear from ACTUAL parents: what's the one thing that made the biggest real-world difference for your family?

Lowering my expectations and raising my patience. Seriously. Once I stopped comparing my kids to neurotypical standards and started meeting them where they were, everything shifted. Not a strategy from a book — just a mindset change that made every other strategy work better.

Connection before correction. Every single time. If my daughter is dysregulated and I try to teach/discipline/lecture, it escalates. If I connect first (hug, empathise, co-regulate), THEN address the behaviour, she can actually hear me. This one principle changed our whole family dynamic.

Exercise. Specifically, vigorous exercise before the hardest part of the day. For us, that's a scooter ride before school. It's like a natural dose of medication — burns off the excess energy and releases the chemicals their brains are craving. Non-negotiable part of our routine now.

Getting my OWN regulation sorted. I can't co-regulate my child if I'm dysregulated myself. Therapy, exercise, sleep, and lowering my own stress made me a completely different parent. The strategies only work when the person delivering them is calm.
