Afternoon rebound when the meds wear off — anyone else?

Started by Bec J · 24 April 2026

Mornings are great on his stimulant but around 4pm when it wears off he's MORE dysregulated than before — like all the held-in stuff floods back at once. Is this 'rebound' and what do you do about the late afternoon crash?

Yep, classic rebound. Our paed adjusted to a different formulation with a smoother tail-off and it helped a lot. Definitely raise it — it's a known thing they can tweak.

Protein snack right as it's wearing off + lowering demands in that window. We treat 4-5pm as a no-homework, low-stim zone now. Don't schedule the hard stuff into the crash.

Worth tracking the exact timing for a week and taking it to the prescriber — rebound timing tells them a lot about dose and formulation. It's adjustable, you don't have to just live with it.

Going to track it and book a review. Didn't realise the tail-off was something they could change. Thank you.
