He's in Year 6, heading to a huge high school next year. 6 teachers, lockers, changing rooms, navigating a campus. He copes with ONE teacher who knows him. I'm lying awake about February. How did your kid handle the jump?

Ours did a few extra orientation visits over the holidays — walked the route, found the toilets, met the year coordinator. Familiarity before day 1 took the terror down a lot.

Get the IEP/learning plan handed over to the high school BEFORE day one — don't assume it follows him. We had to physically email it. One key contact at the school is everything.

It was honestly better than primary for us — more independence, more interesting subjects, and he could move between classes instead of being trapped. Don't borrow February's worry in December x
