My 8yo asked me 'what's wrong with my brain' after overhearing me on the phone and it gutted me. I want to explain it in a way that's honest but doesn't make her feel broken or like an excuse. How did you word it?

We use the Ferrari brain with bicycle brakes analogy — a powerful engine that just needs better brakes, and we're learning the brakes together. She loved being a Ferrari 🏎️

'Your brain is brilliant and it works a bit differently. Some things are easy for you that are hard for others, and some everyday stuff is harder — that's why we use tools and tricks.' Strengths first, always.

There are some great kids' books on it — read one together so it's 'a thing lots of kids have' not 'a thing wrong with you'. Made it normal for my son.

Ferrari brain. She's going to love that. Thank you, I was so scared of getting this wrong.
